Packing Tips

  • Sort through your belongings as you’re packing, this is the perfect time to get rid of any unwanted items.
  • Keep one box aside for important items you will be personally transporting such as irreplaceable photos, prescriptions, keys to your new home, tools, important documents, jewelry, etc.
  • Pack on a room by room basis, and keep in mind where items will be going in your new home to make unpacking at your new home quicker.
  • Pack heavier items such as books in smaller boxes and lighter items in larger boxes.
  • Place heavier items in boxes first and then place lighter items on top.
  • Fill boxes completely to prevent crushing of the box.  Fill any open areas with packing paper.
  • Be sure to pack fragile items in a separate box and wrap individually with bubble wrap or packing paper.
  • Securely tape the tops of all boxes to keep out dust and other debris.
  • Mark the outside of all boxes with contents and which room the contents belong in at your new home to ease the unpacking process.
  • Cover mattresses, box springs and upholstered furniture with protective bags or moving blankets.
  • Clean all appliances and prop open doors of refrigerators and freezers if they will be in storage for any amount of time to prevent mold or mildew.
  • Don’t waste the open space inside appliances.  Use these areas to place boxes containing fragile items or use the space for packing clothes.
  • Keep clothes in dresser drawers to maximize space.  This is also a good space to pack fragile items.
  • Transferring hanging clothes from your closet right to a wardrobe box with a hanging bar is the fastest way to pack and unpack these items keeping them wrinkle-free.
  • Wrap mirrors and framed pictures in moving blankets or boxes and load them vertically in the Mobile Maxx Boxx, never lay flat.
  • Remove light bulbs and shades from lamps and place in sturdy boxes

Tips for loading the Mobile Maxx Boxx

  • As a general rule, pack the Mobile Maxx Boxx as you would pack a moving truck.
  • Start at the back end of the Boxx and work your way toward the door, building in tiers from floor to ceiling.
  • Try to distribute the weight evenly throughout the Boxx.  A group of boxes will weigh much more than an appliance or piece of furniture that occupies the same amount of space due to the density.
  • Loading the Mobile Maxx Boxx with only boxes and no furniture will make the unit very heavy and difficult to transport.  If you will be using more than one unit, disperse your boxes and larger items evenly between the units, using them to fill open space between oddly shaped furniture to maximize space and prevent shifting.
  • Disassemble furniture if possible to use less space, put fasteners in plastic bags and tape to disassembled item.
  • To prevent crushing, place heavier boxes and items on the floor of the Mobile Maxx Boxx and stack lighter items on top.
  • Pack your items as tightly as possible inside the Mobile Maxx Boxx to prevent movement or shifting while in transit.  Protect wood furniture from rubbing against other items by wrapping them with moving blankets.
  • As you’re loading the Boxx, wait to load the items you may need first such as tools or cooking utensils.  Place these items near the door for easy access when you get to your new home.
  • Certain prohibited items cannot be loaded in our units for safety reasons or D.O.T. regulations.  Do not place liquids, food, perishables, flammables, paints, propane tanks, firearms, ammunition, aerosol cans, corrosive, hazardous materials, explosives, jewelry, invaluable or irreplaceable documents or property inside the Mobile Maxx Boxx.  If you’re unsure if an item would be allowed, please call our office.
